Parking is extremely limited at Lake Meridian Park. Please view the parking map for some suggestions, including quite a few spots at Kent’s Fire Station #75. We’d suggest you avoid trying to park in the park’s lot of Kent-Kangley altogether and instead head to the boat launch parking lot (again - very limited) or in the areas on the parking map in the surrounding neighborhood.
Traffic Impact The bike course travels through the VERY congested intersection of Kent-Kangley road and 152nd (Kent-Black Diamond Rd). There will be police officers and volunteers at that intersection keeping the athletes safe and impacted by traffic as little as possible. PLEASE remind any family members or fans of yours to avoid that intersection if they’re coming to the venue during the bike portion of the race (7:10AM - 10:30AM) They will have better access to the lake coming from the North.
Packet Pickup
There will be packet pickup locations on Friday from 4:30 - 8:00pm at Roadrunner Sports at Kent Station and Saturday from 11-2 at Northwest Tri & Bike, the Seattle area’s new triathlon shop - just ¼ mile from the park. There will also be packet pick-up on race morning starting at 5:30. Overnight bike racking will not be available.
At packet pick up all athletes are required to show photo ID. NO ID, NO RACE, NO EXCEPTIONS. USAT members must bring their USAT card or a temporary card from www.usatmembership.com. If you do not have your USAT card at check in, you will have to pay the $10 one day license.
Transition Area will be open at 5:30AM on Sunday. You’ll be required to attach your bike number on your bike and have your body marked before you enter transition. Both numbers will be checked again as you exit transition after the race. Once your bike is in transition, it’s there to stay until you finish the swim. The Transition Area is open to registered athletes only. Please, no spectators or family members inside transition.
Race Start
The swim starts about 50 yards out from shore. It’s a deep water start and our race announcers will help you get to the right place at the right time. Be sure you’re in your wetsuit (if you’re wearing one) and ready to leave shore 15 minutes before your wave starts. You’ll be in the water for approximately 5-10 minutes before your start in addition to your warm-up if you wish to do one. The wave starts will be announced closer to race day.
This is a USAT Sanctioned Event
USA Triathlon sanctioned events have great measures in place to protect athletes belongings and health on race day. Raise the Bar is proud to sanction our events with USAT. If you are an annual member of that organization ($39 annual fee), you will not be required to pay an additional $10 during online registration. Annual USAT members enjoy sponsor discounts, race fee discounts, a quarterly publication, and great communication of news in the multisport world. Find out more about USAT here.
Raise the Bar had our XTERRA Black Diamond race reviewed by the national USAT staff in 2010 - read that report here if you’re interested....
Breakfast for Athletes, Spectators, Families
Raise the Bar serves up a full meal at all our races - and this race has a french toast breakfast compliments of Franz Bakery. We enlist the help of some SUPERB cooks from St. Stephen the Martyr Church Youth Program who take any proceeds from the breakfast and use it to make the lives of the poor in Yakima better. Athletes eat for free but they’d appreciate a donation if you’re so inclined! Spectators and family members are asked to donate $4 per person or $10 per family.
Awards
RTB will give custom pint glasses as awards to the top 3 athletes in each age group for all three race distances. Male and Female overall winners will receive an award, swag from sponsors, and a free race entry to the 2012 Lake Meridian Triathlon or other RTB event.
Medals & Shirts
Every finisher will receive a medal and Every registered athlete will receive a technical tee courtesy of Sweatvac. Overall winners receive a pair of Rudy Project Sunglasses and an entry to next year’s event.
Race Photos
Race photos will be shot by Dennis Crane of DBC Photography. Dennis wildly makes his way through the venue snapping really cool candid shots but might not necessary catch you at your finest moment! For this, we truly apologize. His goal is to shoot every athlete during the day and we know you’ll love his pictures. See what he did at our Summit Plummet Race HERE.
